A scanner is a neat device to convert photographs to computer images with.  They also have a `copy' function which allows you to scan something to your printer.  Further, when used in conjunction with a fax software program, it can be used to fax images just like a regular fax machine.

 

New 3-D scanners can capture entire objects like in the demonstration above.
