THE WINDOWS `REGISTRY' IS A RECORD OF ALL IMPORTANT DATA ASSOCIATED WITH INSTALLED SOFTWARE - AND PROBLEMS IN THE REGISTRY CAN CAUSE SERIOUS SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONS. When you `boot' into Windows, all Registry data is analyzed and your system is configured to match what the Registry has on file. The Registry is a mind-boggling compilation of information - and you can get lost in the mud very fast if you don't know what you are looking at.
When you install a new Windows application, the Registry is updated to make it a part of your working software database. What you see below is the Windows Registry "Editor" - which will allow you to make changes to this extremely critical part of your operating system. In the left screen is a listing of all Registry main folders - and on the left, the Registry values for the `open' folder "Desktop". Editing the Registry is a bit of a trick, and I highly recommend that if you aren't sure of what you are doing, don't mess with it!!
