A typical desktop system of the 2000's

PROLOG:
What you are looking at below is an old advertisement for the `hottest PC "system" on the market' in 1989. Check the price and features and ask yourself `how did we get here from there' so fast - and at such a lower price?! I guess it's the old story of supply and demand and giving the people what they can use and relate to - and the wonderful world of technology professionals today who have made it all happen!! The beauty of it all is that we live in an era of an ever increasing proliferation of gadgets and inventions (like the PC) that have made our lives fuller by being able to experience the amazing things these new creations can do. Place yourself as having been born in 1880 (or something) and ask yourself what you would be doing right now at whatever profession you are in - or how you would be just passing the time of day!?

DISCUSSION:
You have arrived at the pinnacle of what I'm trying to impart to you about your PC itself (and what is in and out of it). First, a computer "system" is comprised of the `user' (you), "PC Hardware" (your base unit and peripherals) and "PC Software" (your operating system, applications, and personal files). To keep all of this functioning properly, you need to perform periodic "PC Tune-up" (which is a relatively simple process that could prevent much unnecessary grief!). Also, there are a few "Tricks" I have learned along the way, and a number of common system "Problems" that keep popping up, that I talk about in this bottomless section.
Folks of all ages, sexes, nationalities and interests are out there staring at their monitors and pounding their keyboards for their own reasons. What is all this hype?? You figure it out!!

This is an opening page that leads to a `WHOLE LOT OF OTHER STUFF'. For instance, "PC Software" takes you to "Operating Systems; Applications; and Personal Files". Then, "Applications" takes you to "Word Processing; Spreadsheets; Databases; Graphics; Business Programs; and Utilities". Worse than that, "PC Hardware" takes you to "Cases; Motherboards; Hard Drives; Keyboards/Mice; Monitors; and PC Peripherals". Then (worse yet) "Motherboards" take you to "CPUs; RAM; and Plug-in Cards". Last, "Plug-in Cards" take you to "Video Cards; Modems; Sound Cards; and TV Cards". There is a method to this madness (I think) because (at least to me) if you start at the top subject and work your way down to the elements, you will find what you are looking for. To simplify this maze, however, I am creating a "Contents" page to make navigation much easier.
