Greetings fellow PC lovers (or non-lovers as the case may be).  Welcome to my little place on the "WWWeb" where I hope to enlighten the novice, unburden the frustrated, give hope to the dedicated, share ideas with my peers, and just make computing more enjoyable for everyone!!  For lack of a better term, I call this an "On-Line PC Seminar" and I hope you will profit from browsing through it.....

What is about to unfold in front of you are the results of a personal relationship, passion, and education I have experienced with the PC since it was first invented in 1980.  I have tried to include in this site the answers to the most frequently asked questions about a PC: "How does it work", "How do I make it work better", "How do I fix my problems", "What can it do that I don't know about", "Where do I go from here", etc. etc.  I hope my efforts have some effect on your relationship with your PC - and your enjoyment of the wonderful things it has to offer.  As a good example of the `fun stuff' you can do with your computer, checkout my TV Cards page!

When I first started my consulting business 15 years ago, I found the little guy above on a clipart CD - and he has been my logo and inspiration ever since.  He looks a little like me (big nose and brown hair) and has the same look in his eye that I do every time I `boot up' (except when I get a "your computer has performed an illegal operation - see your system administrator" message - I hate that!).

To start out, I want to say that I empathize with anyone just `making the plunge' with their first PC.  The things it does is a bottomless pit of `stuff' - and the big question is "where do you start?".  I personally feel that if you have a basic understanding of your computer hardware and the `operating system' that makes it function, you will be more `in touch' with your PC (as an extension of  yourself ) and can go on to all the wonderful capabilities it puts in your hands.  Therefore, check out the `hardware' page first - and go on from there.

What I am trying to do here is give you an OVERVIEW and basic understanding of the wonderful world of  (PC) computing - have a little fun - and open the door to come back to me with any problems or frustrations you have that are compromising your relationship with your PC and the things it can do for you.

This will be an ongoing project for me in the years to come - and it is free to anyone who wants to ask a question or give me feedback on things they would like me to include in my "site".  As a class project years ago I wrote (and later published) a tutorial called "An Introduction to Personal Computing".   Had a lot of fun with it and got a lot of positive feedback from clients and friends who said it was "down to earth and gave them an `understandable' outlook on computing".  I have had excruciating problems with documentation on hardware and software that told you everything - `except what you needed to know' - which is why I wrote my own manual.  I gave up on keeping it up to date (too much stuff happening too fast) but I've created this web site as a follow-on to my initial effort in hopes of reaching a lot more people with a "desire to know" about their `personal computer'.

In addition to providing the free information available on this site, I also run a very comprehensive consulting business in my local area (see `My Business'). If some of my neighbors  in my chosen city of Corpus Christi, Texas would like me to stop by and discuss their computing problems or needs with them (no charge) go to `Contact Me' (or just give me a call) and set up an appointment.

Happy computing!

Karl
